The Gradient Across the Gulf

Here is your cold front forecast for the southeast region of the country for the cold front sliding through the gulf today, January 26th.  We’ll cover west Florida, east Florida, the Panhandle, and Texas.

West Florida

There is a cold front sliding across the gulf right now. There isn’t much low level wind associated with this front. There is a brief window of west wind tonight, then the wind goes north in the morning. There could be small surf tomorrow morning, knee high or better. Then the winds back off mid-day. Then, in the afternoon/evening the winds in the northern gulf get the strongest behind this front at 20knots of northwest, and it could bump up to thigh high, or better. So the best times behind this front should be in the morning tomorrow, and even better than the morning, the evening tomorrow. Another stronger front moves down early next week.

The air temps are going down behind this front. We will be in the 50s tonight, mid 60s by tomorrow, then upper 40s overnight Friday night. The water temp is 68° in Clearwater, and 69° in Venice.

The winds are west tonight.  They are north by morning.  North is a good barrel wind for the lefts at sand key, and almost completely offshore at south facing beaches like Honeymoon, and Upham.

The skies are overcast today.   There is a slim chance of showers this evening.  Tomorrow is partly sunny.

East Florida

The east coast is looking at north winds with knee to thigh high surf for the extended period.  It is isn’t rideable even at the best spots over there on the outside sandbar.  The shore break looks fun though.

Pensacola

There appears to be a slight pulse this evening, but not really enough to get the sandbars breaking.  The north and northwest winds are going to keep Pensacola flat behind this front.

Texas

The Bob Hall Pier in Corpus Christi is a bit cooler than west Florida.  The water temp up there is currently 62°.  Check out the beach cams in Corpus Christi: Corpus Christi Beach Cams.  The surf looks about thigh high right now.  The swell will be dropping by afternoon.  The surf looks like it will return to flatness tomorrow.

That’s your surf report for the gulf coast, and the east coast of Florida.
