Clearwater Beach is All Screwed Up

I really think they’ve got some things really messed up in Clearwater. I can’t put my finger on what it is exactly. For some reason the weather station at Pier 60 appears to be all out of wack. With the weather station outputting incorrect data how do we know what the local water temperatures are?

I was looking at the data from my own sensor on my front porch. It says it’s super hot right now. The high has been in the 80’s. Pier 60 says it’s been a high of 72. I’m inclined believe it could be a little cooler at the coast caused by cooler water temperatures, but 8 degrees seems a little rediculous. That can’t be right.
Pier 60 Data From Today:

I cross checked it with the Tampa International Airport weather station. That one said the temps rose to 80 degrees yesterday, too. Keep in mind that the Tampa International Airport is right on Tampa Bay, so water temperatures shouldn’t be a factor that differentiates the two. Here’s the data from TIA today:

What could possibly be causing this drastic difference between Pier 60 vs my and TIA sensors? Could it be that this difference is accurate? And another interesting question arises if we agree that the air temps on the Pier 60 station are off: Are the water temps off, too? Honestly, I don’t know if I can trust the Pier 60 weather station to give me accurate information anymore about how cold or hot the air and water are. Does anyone know of any other good sources of data for air and water temperatures in the Dunedin and Clearwater area?
