Frigate Birds

The frigate bird is an offshore species of bird.  This is a bird primarily found soaring through the air far offshore, scanning for a meal or just cruising.  They can also be seen near to shore, as in the pictures below.

The birds diet consists of fish that can be caught on the surface of the water.  They are also known to take meals from other offshore bird species, forcing the other birds to drop their catch or disgorge a recent meal.

The birds breed in the keys and the Dry Tortugas.  Usually, nesting in mangroves, trees, bushes, and occasionally on the ground, like many other coastal bird species.
