Clearwater Beach is All Screwed Up

I really think they’ve got some things really messed up in Clearwater. I can’t put my finger on what it is exactly. For some reason the weather station at Pier 60 appears to be all out of wack. With the weather station outputting incorrect data how do we know what the local water temperatures are?

I was looking at the data from my own sensor on my front porch. It says it’s super hot right now. The high has been in the 80’s. Pier 60 says it’s been a high of 72. I’m inclined believe it could be a little cooler at the coast caused by cooler water temperatures, but 8 degrees seems a little rediculous. That can’t be right.
Pier 60 Data From Today:

I cross checked it with the Tampa International Airport weather station. That one said the temps rose to 80 degrees yesterday, too. Keep in mind that the Tampa International Airport is right on Tampa Bay, so water temperatures shouldn’t be a factor that differentiates the two. Here’s the data from TIA today:

What could possibly be causing this drastic difference between Pier 60 vs my and TIA sensors? Could it be that this difference is accurate? And another interesting question arises if we agree that the air temps on the Pier 60 station are off: Are the water temps off, too? Honestly, I don’t know if I can trust the Pier 60 weather station to give me accurate information anymore about how cold or hot the air and water are. Does anyone know of any other good sources of data for air and water temperatures in the Dunedin and Clearwater area?

Tiny Tots All A Glow

I hope you all had a great Christmas. I sure did. We celebrated the day after Christmas day so that everyone could be there. The kids were such a joy. They are so full of love and positivity. One of my cousins kids told me, you’re really nice. The plan was to make it fun for the kids, and it was a mission success. Asher was the most candid for the camera. He’s such a wonderful kid; he’s a lot of fun! It even snowed a heavy snow. Everyone be safe tonight. Have a nice new years eve. Leave a comment, and tell me about your holiday joy.

You Need To Go Out There

After watching a few social media clips from today I can’t help but wonder how good it really was. I saw one from Brandon Fraley that looked like a solid messy head high barrel.

His looked better than any of the clips I saw from the Palm Harbor groms. Everything I saw coming out of their profiles were similar, although way less organized. The swell appeared to be a solid southwest swell, rather than the west southwest swell being shown on the buoy. Mike Peru sent me a couple clips of the point Honeymoon Island. The clip he sent looked like it was more manageable there than anywhere else.

The storm surge was a large one and is probably taking its toll. Honeymoon could split soon. I was watching the cam seeing waves breaking way out in front of the south Clearwater jetty. On a longboard you could literally almost ride those waves from the channel marker way offshore( well maybe not that far, but truthfully pretty close). Brendyn Levasseur posted a really cool picture from deeper in the pass closer to the end of where that wave breaks. It almost looked like it was dropping by afternoon.

A Fortnite video game professional was even out there giving it a go in the pass today, the man himself, Tfue.

I would be stoked to read what it was like for you today. Did you find any manageable waves? I opened back up the comment section, so post up.
