Winter Weather in Florida: Water Temperature on the Rise. 02/09/2018

The water temperature was down in the low, mid, and upper fifties for weeks.  We recently jumped back above that 60 degree mark, and it’s safe to say we’re in a warming trend.  The water could rise into the upper 60s in the coming weeks nearing 70 degrees if another significant cold front doesn’t come sweeping across the gulf. The water temperature got up to 63°F today!  We’ll be comfortably wearing springsuits before you know it.

A Wave on Mothers Day ’17

It’s possible that we could see a wave over the next few days.    The west/northwest winds will be up as another cold front crosses the gulf. The winds will range from 10 to 15 knots.  Saturday and Sunday are the best chances for surf from this front.  The chances will be best in the evenings after the sea breeze increases the wind strength, and the sandbars shallow out. The high tides are just after mid-day, and dropping through the afternoon/evening.

Dry Season Water Shortage Order 2017

April and May have historically been the driest months of the year. Because we’ve had such low rainfall, and because we are in such a severe drought, a phase one water shortage order goes into effect for Charlotte, Citrus, DeSoto, Hardee, Hernando, Highlands, Hillsborough, Lake, Levy, Manatee, Marion, Pasco, Pinellas, Polk, Sarasota and Sumter counties on May 8th. The order is scheduled to last until July 31st. This is a very limited order; however, water restrictions could become more stringent as water becomes more scarce. The order requires that local utilities companies review their conservation measures, and it asks that residents reduce usage and conserve water. Stopping leaky faucets, and limiting lawn watering are ways you can reduce your water usage. Rest assured because there isn’t any reason for concern. An adequate water supply is still available for your water needs.
