Sand Key Bridge Spearfishing

What an incredible time of year for spearfishing.  The water couldn’t be clearer. The pilings in the middle of the bridge are absolutely loaded with massive sheepshead. You could have easily and quickly filled a real large cooler with tasty sheepshead diving this thing today. There was also a large school of nice sized mangrove snapper.  A few  snook were cruising on the surface waiting to ambush any big pilchard that swam by the center spans they were sitting behind.

If you like snorkeling and spearfishing, today was a good day to have done it.  After the cold fronts begin to dissipate, the early springtime is generally the best time for diving.  The water will more than likely stay super clear for another few weeks, but if the afternoons continue to rain like it did today, the water is sure to get murky real quick.  Watch out for the stray shark, but it’s reassuring to know, most attacks are simply a case of mistaken identity in murky water. Freediving conditions are upon us friends.
