Knee High Surf: C.F.1

I got a decent little wave before my fisheye handheld camera ran out of juice. It was a decent little right. As this wave was starting to break and as I was just starting to stand up, I was paying close attention to how the wave was going to form. Sometimes smaller waves like this one can be kind of wonky on the takeoff. I was looking at the face of the wave in front of me hoping it would line up perfectly. As I got to my feet, I quickly took off. Longboard surfboards really get moving quickly after you stand up, once you eliminate drag. Rifling off the peak of the wave I quickly was at the bottom carving out a bottom turn around a crumbling lip in front of me. This wave was a perfect Sand Key right. After the takeoff and after cruising down the line, the wave began to flatten out through the inside, or middle section of the wave. I decided to kick out the back of the wave.

The waves were decent this afternoon and into the evening. The waves were consistently like this one, some better some worse. It was a decent little wave and a fun little swell for the first cold front of the season, but I think I need to wait until we get some waist high surf before I get back out there again. Little surf like this on a longboard is something I enjoy when I haven’t surfed for weeks. Luckily, we are moving into the more active cold front season, and we should be consistently getting waist high and bigger surf. Winter is coming.
