Harvey: A Major Hurricane Before Landfall

Less than 24 hours ago Harvey had a tropical storm peak intensity outlook.  A recent reconnaissance flight measured Harvey, only to determine he’s become deadly impressive.  Expected to make landfall in Texas on Friday evening.  Harvey now has a 15-20 nautical mile wide eye with winds of 55knots and a pressure at 982millibars.  Harvey is expected to move over a large open water eddie coming off the loop current which will further intensify the storm.  In fact, multiple models have this storm reaching major hurricane status before landfall according the NHC.  This impressive storm has a 70% chance of strengthening its wind speed by 45 knots over the next 36 hours.  The storm will slow down just before making landfall.  With our already assured shot at epic surf, this slowed track will extend the duration of the swell. Texas is in trouble, but we’re going to score.  Worth the trip west? The swell should fill in by Tomorrow evening, or Saturday, and last through Sunday evening. It’s going to be solid swell with light offshore winds.  The whole gulf will be getting surf from Hurricane Harvey.
