Skimboarding Contest Tomorrow!

If you’re into skimboarding, which I’ve been for many many years, you’re in for a treat. A skimboarding contest is being held tomorrow. The noobs and even the seasoned veterans might find it somewhat challenging tomorrow if the contest host can’t find a wave breaking close enough to the beach. Back in the day I used to skim down there near IRB occasionally. I would see John Akerman and Alex Chapin destroying the waist high skim that breaks along that beach. I always had a difficult time reaching those waves because my two step took slightly longer to get on the board than the one step or no step. You’re going to need that one step or no step tomorrow if you’re going to want to reach the skim. Hopefully there are a few good skimmers down there to watch. I imagine there will be if Joog squad is involved. If you didn’t already know, this is actually a hot spot for skimboarding. We have skim far more often than surf. You can even skim when it’s flat, so you can do it 365 days a year, and I used to get pretty close to skimming that often. With all the days of skim, beautiful beaches, and warm air it’s a skimmers paradise. If you’re thinking about what to do tomorrow, you might want to cruise up or down or over to 15th ave Indian Rocks Beach tomorrow after 9 in the morning when the first heat goes. It sure might be a doosie.

Tropical Storm Franklin is Spinning

We have a newly formed tropical storm this morning. Tropical Strom Franklin was looking good right from the moment it exited the African peninsula. It lost its shape while moving through the Atlantic. It began to reform within the past day or two. Today, as it nears the gulf, it has enough of a spin to be called a tropical storm. The eye is located Continue reading Tropical Storm Franklin is Spinning
