Andy Irons Documentary: Kissed By God Review

A new Andy Irons documentary is coming out soon called Andy Irons: Kissed by God. Andy Irons was a really iconic figure in the surfing world 15 years or less ago. You would see pictures of him slashing a really radical turn on the windows of surf shops, promoted on the pictures atop the boardshort racks, and in many of the latest and greatest surf videos. He was a very well known and skilled surfer.

The documentary sheds light on what appears to be a characterization not at all common of Andy Irons as bipolar. That alone may make it worth watching. It would be interesting to hear how the mental health professional puts together the argument of him having bipolar disorder, a most crippling disorder.

It would also be a great story for someone who wants to see the beauty in madness. Bipolar disorder is characterized as one of the most disabling disorder crippling those it touches. Andy Irons was always thought of as the best in the world over a course of many years, and for him to have stayed on top for so many years he shows the resilience that people with mental health problems (assuming the diagnosis is accurate) truely have.

The video will undoubtedly discuss the theory of self medication as a way of understanding his death. Self medication is not a theory that everyone believes. It basically says that people take drugs to help them cope with their struggles in life. Drugs become a coping mechanism, a way for the person to avoid other things that are causing them extreme stress.

If your not familiary with Andy Irons you might want to check out a few of the videos below before watching the documentary coming out soon, so you might be a little bit better prepared for what you could potentially learn about one of the greatest surfers in surfing history. Many people understand behavior in many different ways, and interpreting emotions and behaviors that a human may have displayed at a certain point in their life may detract from your perspective of who Andy Irons really was.
